Dental Implants

A dental implant is a permanent option to replace a single missing tooth or multiple teeth.

Missing teeth can lead to problems both for your oral health and your facial appearance.  Loss of teeth can cause difficulty in eating certain foods and create a sunken appearance in your face where teeth may be missing, due to loss of support of your facial structures.

Dental implants are considered the gold standard option when it comes to the replacement of missing teeth.  They can be used to replace a single tooth, multiple teeth or if you have no teeth at all.

Implants have been found to be a safe and predictable option with a 90% success rate.  The long-term success of a dental implant will be influenced by how well you look after it, by attending regular review and hygiene appointments and maintaining good oral hygiene.

What does implant treatment involve:

Restoring a missing tooth with an implant involves the implantation of a titanium screw into the jaw bone. If you have insufficient jaw bone to support an implant, bone grafting can be undertaken.  Integration of the implant into the jaw bone can take a few weeks, in which time a temporary tooth is attached to the implant.

Following healing, a definitive artificial tooth is attached to your implant.  The implant and tooth feel and look just like your own natural tooth.
